ASID Logo Design Competition – Winner Announced!
Recently As We Are partnered with the Australasian Society for Intellectual Disability (ASID), inviting Western Australian artists of all ages who have an intellectual disability to submit a logo design for their 2014 ASID Conference in Fre- mantle.
We were overwhelmed with entries – in excess of 60 were received!! The entries reflected the many dimension of the nautical “All Aboard” theme: sailing boats, water, marine animals, lighthouses, people enjoying the sunshine and more!
I had the pleasure of assessing the entries alongside Angus Buchanan (President ASID), Sue Peden (Conference Co-Convenor), Ron Regan (Conference Co-Convenor & CEO, Mosaic Community Care), Gordon Trewern (CEO, Nulsen), and Kate Leslie (As We Are Children).
We assessed the entries according to the theme, artistic creativity, as well as whether the design was simple, and able be scaled and reproduced easily. What a fun but tough job we had!!
The biggest of congratulations to artist John Verjans for his beautiful image of a sailing boat sailing past a lighthouse on the ocean (above)! In regards to his entry, John says, “ ‘All Aboard’ needs a boat, so I wanted to paint a boat at Fremantle. I found photos of the lighthouse at South Mole and a sailing boat on the ocean.” John receives a cash prize of $500 and his winning entry will be used in the development of all conference materials.
We had such a hard time picking a winner we decided to also select a runner up who will receive a cash prize of $250: Clive Collender! (see below)
The assessing panel would also like to acknowledge outstanding entries from Christina Mavros, Shelley Dixon and Ralph Hotz (see below from top to bottom).
The 2014 ASID Conference Committee hopes to display all entries at the Conference in Fremantle next year. As We Are We will keep you posted.
A big thank you to all of the artists who entered!Image (top, from left to right):Ron, Sue, Angus, Gordon, Kate and Susie
