The Broken Pokers: As We Are Music Fundraiser – Friday 10th May

As We Are would like you to join us for an enjoyable night of rollicking folk music from The Broken Pokers. Playing a mixture of Irish & Scottish songs, ballads and traditional tune sets, as well as fun takes on pop and folk tunes from around Australia and the world, sit and enjoy the lively set or get ready to give your dancing shoes a good workout!

As Toby cranks the bodhran and the legendary foot tambourine (the glue that holds them together), Derrick switches between guitar and Irish bouzouki and adds some stomp action, while Ben fires up either banjo, mandolin or tin whistle. Throw in a healthy dose of three-part harmony and the whole two-hour show smacks you in the face like a strange but very pleasant soup du jour of trad.

The Broken Pokers are a 3-piece line-up originating in the West of Ireland by founding member Derrick Buckley (guitar/bouzouki/vocals), who is now Perth-based and joined by locals Ben Christiansen (banjo/mandolin/vocals) and Toby Anning (bodhran/vocals).

There will also be a raffle on the night featuring a range of awesome prizes including some artworks by As We Are artists. So be sure to bring some extra change along for your chance to win!
