Deep Winter is a season full of dark nights when shining stars contrast with the black and blue sky. It is a time of deep sleep, hibernation, shadows, spirits, dreaming, nocturnal animals, glow, cold, fire, short days, stories, folklore, rain, storms and regrowth.

counterpART Exhibition
counterpART is an exhibition coordinated by As We Are of leading Western Australian artists with intellectual disability – Katrina Barber, Greg Barr, David Guhl, Rebecca Johnston and Jane Ryan – at Goolugatup Heathcote. The artists involved represent diverse practices including painting, sculpture, and textile and ceramics. This exhibition is an important opportunity to showcase the excellence of the artists as well as their distinctive perspectives and experience.
A big thank you to Bronywn and Marlon Edwards from Smooth Edge Studio for creating a fantastic min-documentary of the 2020 As We Are Art Award. The video features many of the participating artists and their artworks, including the opening night. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

The annual As We Are Art Award is a state-wide art award and exhibition open to all Western Australian artists who have an intellectual disability (aged 18+).

As We Are – Online Art Workshop Series
As We Are invites our artists to participate in our upcoming 6-week Online Art Workshops series. Each workshop will be 1.5 hours long, held weekly, and facilitated by talented local WA artists Kate Leslie and Natalie Scholtz.

As We Are : Online Art Workshop Series
As We Are invites our artists to participate in one of our 2 x 6-week Online Art Workshops series – Landscape Painting and Drawing. Each workshop will be 1.5 hours long, held weekly, and facilitated by talented local WA artists Kate Leslie and Natalie Scholtz. Each of the two series will be small with a maximum of ten participating artists, to generate an engaging, community atmosphere just like in-person art workshops!

As We Are Focus Groups
In addition to our current Survey, As We Are would like to invite our artists and community to be part of an interactive Focus Group. The purpose of the Focus Group meetings is for all of the As We Are community — artists, family, friends, art mentors and support workers, as well as all our broader partners, sponsors, funders and donors — to be able to have a direct say about the future for WA artists who have an intellectual disability.

As We Are Stakeholder Survey
Independent consultants Dr Helen Grzyb and Liesbeth Goedhart are conducting a confidential Survey of all As We Are stakeholders. The Survey will take place online between 28 January to 4 February 2020, with a hard copy survey posted to all artists 28 January and to be returned by Friday 7 February 2020.
