Entries open for the 2018 As We Are Art Award!
The annual As We Are Art Award is a state-wide art award and exhibition open to all Western Australian artists who have an intellectual disability (aged 18+). Entries can be in any art medium, though works are limited in size and weight: 1m x 1m and up to 5kg for two-dimensional works, and 0.5m3 and up to 10kg for three-dimensional works. In 2018, artists are invited to submit one entry, with all entries submitted the artists’ original works and produced in the 12-month period prior to the entry closing date.
This year’s exhibition is being held at the prestigious Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, 21 Mounts Bay Road, Perth in their Level 2 Main Foyer. Click here to download a copy of the exhibition poster.
Entry is a two-part process: firstly, entrants are required to submit a completed entry form, and secondly, entrants are required to deliver their artworks approximately three weeks later (see ‘Key Dates’ section below).

There are seven art award categories, each with a respective cash prize of $500, with all entries judged by a professional, independent judging panel:
- Rosalind Lewis Award, sponsored by Government of Western Australia Department of Communities
- David Guhl Award for Artistic Excellence, sponsored by Mosaic Community Care
- Stephen Delower Memorial 3D Award (3D entries only), sponsored by Nulsen Disability Services
- Contemporary Art Award, sponsored by Tunbridge Gallery
- Regional Art Award (Regional entrants only), sponsored by MeloVelo
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entrants only), sponsored by Nulsen Disability Services, and the
- People’s Choice Award (as voted by the public), sponsored by the Victoria Park Centre for the Arts and Kent Street Gallery
The judges will also award a number of Certificate of High Commendations for outstanding entries. Recipients of the High Commendation will each receive a $50 framing voucher from Picasso Art + Framers in Duncraig. (Picasso Art + Framers have also kindly offered a 30% discount to all As We Are artists, so please be sure to take advantage of this great offer and have your work professionally framed).
All participating artists and their support network are invited and highly encouraged to attend the exhibition opening and award presentation night. This is a fun and celebratory evening, with music, drinks and nibbles and a good time is had by all. The majority of sales historically have happened on the opening night, and buyers along with the general public really enjoy the opportunity of meeting with the artists.

Exhibition opening days: Daily from Sunday 28th of October to Thursday 8th of November 2018, staffed from 10am – 4pm
Collection of sold (purchaser) and unsold (artist) artwork: 4 – 6pm Thursday 8th November or 10am – 12pm Friday 9th November 2018, Level 2 Main Foyer, Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, 21 Mounts Bay Road, Perth
